KUALA LUMPUR: It was all smiles on the faces of children at Lighthouse Children Welfare Home Association when 25 youth decided to spend money and time on them.
Armed with school book, medical supplies, groceries and lunch, the members of Petaling Jaya Hindu Youth Organisation (PJHYO) went to the home hoping to make a difference to the lives of the children.
Organisation president S. Jeevanesan said the home is one of the three welfare institutions that the organisation intends to adopt.
"We will be visiting this home and two others to ensure that their needs are fulfilled."
Members of the organisation also spent half a day entertaining 34 children in the home with story telling and games.
The home's caretaker Jacinta Steven said that she was happy that the group could spend some time with the children.
"It makes them feel wanted and gives them a sense of self-worth," she said.
The home has been a sanctuary for children from broken families, poor families, drug addict parents and those who have been physically and sexually abused.
There are children between the age of one and 18 living in the home and RM25,000 is needed every month to run the place.
"These kinds of donations and visits make our work easier," said Jacinta.
Jeevanesan said that the organisation welcomes those who are interested in joining the group or who wish to contribute to their welfare initiatives.
