SPOILT FOR CHOICE: A wide variety of goods were available for shoppers at the ‘Jom Beli Barang Raya 2012’

PAGOH: THE recently-concluded state-level "Jom Beli Barang Raya 2012" carnival was a success in terms of offering consumers a variety of items at competitive prices in a one-stop centre.

A total of 100 traders and about 5,000 visitors were at the three-day event which began on Aug 3. It was held at the Pagoh Sports Complex

The trading area, which featured  100 booths, made it convenient for shoppers to do all their Hari Raya shopping at the carnival.

Cookies, clothes, home furnishings, car care, health products and food to break fast, kept the shoppers busy.

There were also auctions on selected items and customers also got the chance to win prizes from some traders who were conducting contests.

An Islamic forum on consumer rights and a cooking demonstration were also held.

The arrival of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Aug 4 made the carnival even more festive.

Muhyiddin, who launched the carnival, praised the organiser, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, for doing a good job.

The deputy prime minister spent about 45 minutes visiting the booths with the  Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism deputy  minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim.

Both VIPs were seen mingling with the traders and visitors.

The carnival, an annual event since 2009, was an effort to offer items at reasonable prices direct to consumers for their Hari Raya preparations.
