KLUANG: Some 500 teachers here were given netbooks under the 1Malaysia NetBook programme sponsored by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission recently.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung handed the netbooks  to the  primary and religious school teachers at SJK (C) Chong Hwa 2.

The Kluang MP  said the programme was  part of the Malaysia Broadband Initiative to  expose Malaysians to  advancements in information technology (IT).

Hou said only those from  lower income families were eligible for the netbooks.

"The government wants to improve the people's IT literacy to help spur the nation's development," he said.
