KLUANG: About 200 poor families from the Kluang parliamentary constituency each RM200 and gifts for Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Rice, clothing, cakes and cash were given to the families selected by the Welfare Department as well as the respective village committees.

Deputy Higher Education Minister and Kluang MP Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung said his office had held the programme for four years now to help the underprivileged.

"The contributions are under Barisan Nasional's  (BN's) programme to look after the welfare of the people, especially the poor.

"We trust that the contributions will help ease the burden of the poor families and make it a memorable Hari Raya Aidilfitri for them," he said.

Hou hopes that the families not selected this year will be patient as the selection process will reach out to other poor families in the constituency. The recipients change  according to the situation yearly.

"The same programme and funds will also be availble for other festive celebrations within the Kluang constituency," he said.
