ASSURANCE:There will not be any shortage of supply during the festive season
CONSUMERS are assured of sufficient supply of cooking oil for Ramadan and Hari Raya.
State Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Department director Ayub Abd Rahman said inspections carried out by department officers in districts all over the state showed that there is no shortage of supply.
He said the state is supplied with about 6,606 metric tonnes of cooking oil a month which is more than enough to cope with the demand despite the increasing need of the item in the next few weeks.
"The fact that some consumers are complaining about shortages is because they are loyal to certain brands. When the stock of these brands run out and are not replenished on time, that is when customers start complaining of shortages," said Ayub.
"Maybe it is time to change their mindset about brand loyalty. After all, the ingredients in all cooking oils are the same," he said.
Earlier Ayub visited S & M Edible Oil (M) Sdn Bhd factory in Taman Mount Austin in Johor Baru. He said 35 factories in Johor are involved in the processing and packaging of cooking oil.
"As such, there is no cause for worry on cooking oil shortages."
Ayub said the department will announce the price of essential items under the festive price control scheme soon.
"Those who wish to complain about shortages can inform us and we will guarantee that the items will reach their favourite stores in three days," he added.
Ayub also urged consumers not to buy essential items in excessive quantity as this may create artificial shortages.
