    Dangerous without traffic lights

POTENTIAL FOR TRAGEDY: Motorists, especially those in heavy vehicles, don’t reduce speed when approaching the junction leading to Taman Seri Lambak

RESIDENTS of Taman Seri Lambak near here are appealing to the Johor Tenggara Town Board to install traffic lights at the junction leading to their housing area.

They feel that the absence of traffic lights there pose a danger to motorists in the area, which has more than 6,000 residents.

They want the traffic lights to be installed as soon as possible, for the matter has already been discussed between the representatives of the residents and the town board.

A resident, Abdul Rahman, said there have been several accidents at the junction over the past few years.

"What we do not understand is that the main junction to the nearby Taman Impian, which has fewer residents than here, has already been equipped with a traffic light," he said.

"The town board should act fast to install traffic lights here to prevent more accidents from happening. I hope they can do that without delay, as we do not want yet another bad accident to happen."

Abdul also questioned the rationale of providing the residents with less urgent facilities like the Seri Lambak Square garden which is not well-utilised due to its unsuitable location.

Another resident, Hisham Shaari, also expressed concerned over the safety of motorists using the junction as he claimed that vehicles were usually driven fast through the main road of Jalan Kluang-Kota Tinggi.

"It is a known fact that inexperienced drivers tend to be worried when they want to exit the junction," he said.

"I hope the authorities will immediately install traffic lights there as this housing area has grown over the past 20 years and the number of residents have also increased."

Hisham said the authorities should also bear in mind that the volume of traffic along Jalan Kluang-Kota Tinggi has also increased.
