JOHOR BARU: Generous donors, sponsors and music-lovers enjoyed an intimate showcase by Double Take, the musical partnership of Mia Palencia, a jazz-pop vocalist and master acoustic guitarist Roger Wang on April 20.

Fans  bought tickets for a worthy cause, to help the MyKasih Foundation -- Love My Neighbourhood Food Aid programme.

The show was organised by the office of Johor Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Shahrir Samad, in collaboration with MyKasih Foundation, the Johor Society for the Performing Arts (JSPA) and Mutiara hotel Johor Baru.

In a  cheque presentation ceremony, representatives from Yayasan Hajjah Datuk Rokiah, Century Total Logistics Sdn Bhd, Bintan Kencana Sdn Bhd and City Skill Sdn Bhd each presented RM10,000  to Shahrir.

The funds are to help up to a 1,000 underprivileged families in JB.

MyKasih Foundation was started by Ngau Boon Keat and his wife, Jean, in 2009,  to improve the  socio-economic  well-being of the needy through education and skills training.

Food aid reaches more than 11,200 families in 98 communities nationwide, with a large percentage in Johor Baru.

"The programme uses the ePetrol's cashless payment system," said MyKasih Foundation chief executive officer Jeff Perera, adding that  the system was smooth, seamless and transparent.

A monthly allowance is deposited into the aid recipient's MyKad account for them to shop for essential items at participating retailers.

Perera received a cheque for RM80,000 raised from the concert from Shahrir.
