NUISANCE: The presence of these pests irks customers and travellers who question cleanliness of the place

MUAR: THE presence of a chicken farm near the Pagoh Selatan R&R on the PLUS Highway is the cause of discomfort for many  travellers.

Resident Rosli Abu Karim, 38, said there are many flies due to the chicken farm as well as a  papaya orchard, which uses chicken manure as fertilisers.

"The farm and orchard are within seven kilometres of the R&R area. The traders and cleaners have to explain to customers at the food court and travellers who question the cleanliness of the place due to the presence of these flies," said Rosli.

He said even though the traders and workers did everything to ensure cleanliness, the problem persists.

A check at the area showed that the problem not only affected the food court but also a petrol station.

An employee at the petrol station,  Ataa'illah Misman, 25, said the fly traps that were installed at the station were not effective.

"We have to change the fly traps often while the electric trap has to be turned on 24 hours," said Ataa'illah.
