NEW STUDIO: Dance floor can accommodate up to 120 students at a time

JOHOR BARU: DANCE enthusiasts here  can now head to Cindini, a dance studio opened  two months ago and managed by Cindini Dance International Sdn Bhd. Located  on Level 4 of the Danga City Mall here, the dance studio features a dance floor that can accommodate up to 120 students at a time. It also has a wide range of dance wear and shoes. Cindini is owned by a Singaporean husband-and-wife team, Henry Tan, 55,  and Jessica Tan, 44.

The couple, who met and fell in love on the dance floor, are both professional dancers.

Henry told a press conference recently that the studio offers a platform for dance enthusiasts.  Since its opening in July, the studio has attracted about 60 students, 90 per cent of whom are locals.

“We believe that we will be able to attract Singaporeans to the dance studio due to the proximity of Danga City Mall to the republic.

“We are planning to start weekend crash courses that teach participants  four types of dances.

“As there are many people who are busy with their work  but at the same time desire to learn new skills, short courses will be very attractive to them,” he said.

Henry took up dance lessons at  28 and since then has participated in ballroom dancing competitions. He also goes to countries such as Vietnam to coach students there.

Currently, the dance studio offers 22 types of dances like line dance, belly dance, basic tango, zumba fitness and basic waltz.

The Singapore-based company, which operates in the Hong Lim Complex in the republic, also exports the dance wear and shoes, which are designed and made in Singapore, to distributors in the United Kingdom, Vietnam and Germany, among others.

Future plans include forming a team of dancers  to perform at corporate functions or parties, organising dance competitions and also having a short course for couples who want to learn ballroom dancing to entertain guests at their wedding dinner receptions.

For a taste of the Zumba Fitness class, which is scheduled to start every Tuesday next month, Henry said there will be a free trial lesson on Sept 25 from 8pm to 9pm.

The fee for the Zumba Fitness is RM200 for eight lessons.
