JOHOR BARU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) chancellor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, who is the consort of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, hosted a breaking of fast event or iftar, for over 100 undergraduates recently.

Among the students who attended were those from China, Yemen, Somalia and Iran.

UTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said the event was held to foster better ties among the university students and administration.

"The programme is among UTM's many initiatives which include Quran tadarus, terawih prayers, twice-weekly distribution of bubur lambuk and daily iftar, to achieve that."

Among those present were representatives of the offices of the palace, Menteri Besar and state secretary.
