Fresh greens and meat at ‘pasar tani’

ADEQUATE SUPPLY:Consumers can buy chicken, beef, coconut and vegetables at 16 special farmers’ markets today and tomorrow

CONSUMERS can buy fresh chicken, beef, coconut and vegetables at 16 Special Hari Raya Aidilfitri pasar tani (farmers’ market) throughout Johor today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday).

The pasar tani are managed by the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama).

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, Education and Higher Education Committee chairman, Datuk Maulizan Bujang said 392 traders comprising farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen and agro-based  entrepreneurs will take part in the special edition of pasar tani.

He said Fama has allocated 27,900 chicken, beef from 171 heads of cattle, 12,650 coconuts, 4.6 tonnes of long beans, 2.45 tonnes of red chillies and 4.3 tonnes of cabbage at all 16 pasar tani.

“Of the 16 pasar tani, only five will be held  today and tomorrow(Friday and Saturday).

“The five are  Pasar Tani Mega in Larkin, Johor Baru; Pontian; Jalan Omar in Batu Pahat; Jalan Sungai Kemang in Kota Tinggi, and Kompleks Pasar Tani Kekal Bukit Gambir in Ledang.”

Maulizan, who was recently speaking to reporters at the launch of the special edition of pasar tani, said two other pasar tani would  be held only today —  Bandar Tenggara in Kota Tinggi and Jalan Kampung Sri Lalang in Mersing.

The remaining nine pasar tani that will be held only on  Saturday are at Kompleks Pusat Bandar Pasir Gudang; Bandar Baru Uda in Johor Baru; Indahpura in Kulaijaya; Jalan Dato Onn in Mersing; Bukit Pasir in Muar; Segamat; Labis; Kampung Melayu in Simpang Renggam; and Taman Sri Lambak in Kluang.

Maulizan said the pasar tani will be opened between 6.30am and 12.30pm, except for Kompleks Pasar Tani Kekal Bukit Gambir in Ledang which will extend its operation to 5pm.
