1MALAYSIA SPIRIT: Over 15,000 guests thronged the Hari Raya open house for a festive feast

JOHOR BARU: Over 15,000 guests attended the annual open house.

Among the dignitaries present were state assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Ali Hassan, state religious council adviser Datuk Nooh Gadut, state executive council members and heads of government departments.

Ghani and wife Prof Datin Paduka Dr Jamilah Ariffin greeted the guests at the entrance.

Ghani's son, Mohammad Jamil Hilmi Abdul Ghani and his son's wife Daryl Maira Orilaza Abdullah, both 30, were also present.  The couple tied the knot about three months ago.

Ahmad Jamal Sulaiman, 50, of Taman Daya, Johor Baru, said he made it a point to attend the menteri besar's open house every year.

"I've been coming here for the past five years.  I brought my wife and my youngest son.  My other children are studying overseas," said the businessman.

Jamal said he enjoyed the feast's 1Malaysia spirit as the guests of different ethnic groups dined together.

"Only in Malaysia's multiracial community can one feel the spirit of Muhibbah.

"I've travelled extensively over the past few years, but I always come home for Hari Raya celebrations with my family," he said.
