KLUANG: A futsal training camp, named Kem Generasi Gemilang Futsal, was recently organised by the Johor Community Development Department (Kemas).

The event at Sport Planet Kluang attracted 31 teams from parliamentary constituencies throughout the state.

Johor Kemas assistant director operation I, Abdul Rahim Md Salleh, said the camp's main objective was to encourage youngsters to pursue sports, and promote mental and physical strength.

"It is aimed at instilling participants with self-confidence, besides building positive self-image to enable youngsters to face the challenges in life," he said.

"The camp could also become a network for youths in Johor. It would hopefully develop them to be more active and healthier, while promoting values that could help them face the fast-paced world."

Also present at the event were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Gan Ping Siew and Johor Wanita Umno chief Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain.

Rahim said the camp, under the 1Malaysia concept, has helped to forge closer ties among youngsters of different races.
