TIMELY PRESENT: Cash and food donations help the poor and needy to have a happy Hari Raya celebration

JOHOR BARU: THIRTY poor residents, including single mothers, of Tanjung Adang, here, received cash and essential items to ease their burden during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The contributions came from non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Kebajikan Inang Sejati (Perkis) Johor and Tanjung Adang Umno branch.

The gifts were presented at an event at the Tanjung Adang surau in Gelang Patah, recently.

The families identified as "poor" received cash as well as sugar, rice and milk.

Perkis chairman Dr Zaini Abu Bakar said "We have held this programme in the past two years to assist families who are poor and those categorised as needy," he said.

Dr Zaini hopes the contributions will help the families to have a happy Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Single mother Arafah Ibrahim, 54, was touched to be selected as one of the recipients.

"The donations will definitely help my family to prepare for Hari Raya this year," she said.

Rosminah Ali, 72, was grateful for the contributions, which she said would go a long way for her family.
