BRAZEN: After shooting tow truck driver, gunman fires at double-storey house
SEGAMAT: A GUNMAN went berserk during a shooting spree in two neighbouring housing estates here recently, injuring a tow truck driver and shattering the window of a terrace house.
The brazen act by the gunman, who was driving a black BMW, shocked residents in the housing estates.
It was learnt that the first case occured at about 2.45pm when the gunman fired several shots at A. Nadarajan, 49, after both vehicles were side by side near the traffic light junction at Bandar Segamat Baru.
Two of the shots hit Nadarajan's right arm, but he maintained his composure and sped off towards the district police station about five kilometres away for fear that the gunman will give chase.
The gunman drove towards Bukit Siput instead, which is just opposite Bandar Segamat Baru, and fired five shots into a double-storey house, which hit the window panel.
However, no one was in the house, located about two kilometres from the traffic light junction.
The second incident occurred just 15 minutes after the first one.
Nadarajan, whose arm was soaked in blood when he reached the police station, was sent to the Segamat Hospital escorted by a police patrol car. He is reported to be in stable condition.
Police later found two bullet shells near the vicinity of the first shooting.
It is believed the gunman fired at least four shots at the victim.
Many shop owners and residents near the site of the first shooting rushed out after they heard the gun shots but did not see anything. It was until after the police arrived that they realised there had been a shooting.
Meanwhile, district police chief Superintendent Hanafi Daud confirmed the shootings, but refused to comment on the motive of the incidents.
