GOOD: The rent-based scheme in Iskandar Malaysia gets the thumbs up from the first-batch of applicants

THE first batch of successful applicants under the  Rumah Iskandar Malaysia scheme moved into their house in  Gelang Patah here in Johor Baru early this month.

The  32 families were among  203 successful applicants, out of the 345 received applications.

The rent-based Rumah Iskandar Malaysia scheme in Jalan Lima Kedai, Gelang Patah,  is allocated to families working in  Iskandar Malaysia with a monthly household income of below RM3,000.

The project aims to provide a higher quality of living with better amenities.

Some of the facilities available at the housing estate include a community

hall, two community police beats, built-in cable TV   and  24-hour security facilities.

Tenant Suu Shih Eng, 54, said the units were larger than those of other apartments.

"My  family is  happy to stay here because it is equipped with all the facilities, including the Iskandar Malaysia auxiliary police.

"It is also  near my workplace. I am promoting this to all my friends who meet the criteria as this is a not-to-be-missed offer," said Suu.

Mansor Ibrahim, 50, who was one of the first families to move in to the housing estate, said he was thankful when he was informed that he was one of the successful applicants.

"The  Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU)  units (made for those with disabilities) are  more convenient and comfortable.

"This helps as my  father-in-law is wheelchair-bound. The door space is larger, the switches are lower and there are ramps," said Mansor.

"These housing schemes help the lower income to have a good home with comfortable living spaces," he added.

Those who are interested in renting a unit at  Rumah Iskandar Malaysia can obtain the application form at IRDA's office in Danga Bay.
