Herbal aid for prostate health

JOHOR BARU: True Organic Sdn Bhd has developed a local herb-based supplement to treat prostate problems -- one of the most common health problem faced by men.

The new product, called EuryAct,   uses the ingredients Radix Eurycoma longifolia, Cortex eucommiae ulmoides, Radix rehmanniae preparata  and Fructus corni officinalis.

Radix eurycoma contains plant chemicals that can enhance the production of testosterone, while Cortex eucommiae and  Fructus corni are used as liver and kidney tonics.

Radix Rehmanniae is rich in anti-oxidants and, therefore, has anti-tumour, as well as diuretic properties.

The active ingredients are extracted only from the roots, bark and pulp of the  plants.

True Organic marketing associate Poon Yue Kew said about 50 per cent of men over the age of 50, and 75 per cent of men above 70, faced prostate disorders, especially benign prostatic hyperplasia -- a swelling of the prostate caused by changes in testosterone levels.

He said ageing, malnutrition, an unbalanced diets, depression as well as environmental factors, were often associated with the drop in testosterone levels, which affects the health, vitality and the reproductive system of both men and women.

"Studies show the production of testosterone in men decreases by 2 per cent per year from the age of 21.

"With the lowering of testosterone, the prostate cannot function properly and this affects a man's quality of life, and in manifested in frequent urination, difficulty in urination, and weak urination, among other problems," he said.

Poon said EuryAct optimises the metabolism of testosterone, promotes prostate health, and provides concentrated antioxidant protection, with botanically-derived ingredients.

He said the company had plans to market the product overseas, including the Middle-East, as it had secured halal certification.

The product also has adopted improved manufacturing practices and has passed the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points.
