OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: More than 500 local and foreign cyclists had a challenging ride in the inaugural Nusa Bayu Forest Jamboree 2012 which comprised trails of steep uphill and downhill slopes, among other tough terrain
NUSAJAYA: MORE than 500 local and foreign cyclists recently took part in the inaugural Nusa Bayu Forest Jamboree 2012, which was held by UEM Land Holdings Bhd, with the help of the Forest Cycle Cycling Club and Nusajaya district police headquarters.
The event was themed Live a Healthy Lifestyle through Sports. The jamboree was aimed at building a more physically active and environmentally-friendly society through sport and recreational activities.
Its goal was also to strengthen the virtues of good sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork and perseverance with a focus on promoting a healthy mental attitude, self-control and cooperation between sportsmen.
The jamboree attracted more riders from several age groups from all over Malaysia and abroad.
The local riders came from as far as Pahang, Terengganu and Kedah, while the foreign riders were from Singapore, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada, the United States and Australia.
The 45km trail covered an extensive cycling route in the forests around Gelang Patah.
The trail offered an exhilarating experience to participants, as it required them to go through a psychically challenging terrain of steep mounds, downhill slopes, streams, palm oil plantations and vegetables farms.
The jamboree, which was divided into two main categories (men and women), offered more than RM4,000 in prizes, besides medals and other prizes.
A lucky draw winner walked away with a Giant MTB XTC 29-inch bike worth RM7,000.
The jamboree was held in conjunction with the launch of the latest phase of the Nusa Bayu mixed development project.
Nusa Bayu is a UEM Land Holdings development which spans 105ha across Nusajaya.
Its range of homes are located near vast green spaces and surrounded by landmark centres under the Iskandar Malaysia Development Corridor such as Kota Iskandar, the Indoor Theme Park, Educity, Legoland, Medini, NuMed, Afiat Healthpark, Puteri Harbour, the Southern Industrial Logistic Clusters (SiLC), and the Bio-XCell biotechnology park.
These developments create a network of modern and integrated infrastructure and conveniences for people in Iskandar Malaysia.
The Nusa Bayu Forest Jamboree coincided with the launch of new houses at Nusa Bayu.
Besides the jamboree, other activities held in conjunction with the launch were a football match, a showcase of 20 Perodua Kancil, carnival games such as Fantastic Journey and Spin & Win, among others.
The jamboree was flagged off by Johor Youth and Sports Committee chairman, Md Jais Sarday.
Also present were Nusajaya district police chief Supt Nor Hashim Mohammad, UEM Land Holdings Bhd's senior general manager of Nusajaya, Mohd Azmil Abd Shukor, and its general manager for township, infrastructure and planning, Rusli Zainal Abidin.
UEM Land Holdings Bhd is the master developer of the new state administrative township of Nusajaya.
The latter is the key driver of Iskandar Malaysia.
The Nusa Bayu development project is top of its class in terms of green and people-friendly features.
The neighbourhood boasts a 3.2ha recreational lake, a 1.6ha football field, a 550m jogging path, a community centre, mosque, and primary and secondary schools.
The Nusa Bayu homes are conceptualised based on an award-winning master plan which features high speed, broadband-ready facilities.
The homes are built according to Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) standards.
They are affordable, especially for first-time house buyers.
