PLEASE MR POSTMAN: Letters end up at villager’s home, irking fellow residents

A HOUSE belonging to a resident in Kampung Kuala Masai in Pasir Gudang has become an unofficial mail centre when postmen began to dump letters meant for the residents in the surrounding areas there several years ago.

Even though the letters have proper addresses, the postmen would simply dump the letters meant for residents of Kampung Kuala Masai, Kampung Orang Asli and part of Kampung Rinting at the house belonging to Suria Mohd Rais.

This has irked many residents who did not receive their letters.

Suria, 38, said the problem should not have happened at a time when  postal services have improved by leaps and bounds.

"Imagine all these letters being dumped at my house. One time, an Orang Asli resident received a letter about  aid allocation and had to come to my house to get the letter.

"Before long, all the Orang Asli residents from their village came to my house to look for their letters and when they found their letters, they blamed me and my family even though it is not our problem," she said.

She said  her family have faced the problem for over 10 years which have contributed to a lot of troubles for the family.

"The number of letters are increasing everyday because it involves three villages.

"My husband even had to take the initiative to provide a used motorcycle basket for the postmen to put the letters in and when it rains, we had to take the letters inside so that they would not get wet," said Suria.

Suria's husband, Sharin Wahab, 37, said the problem had gone on for too long and hoped that it would be settled soon.

"The excuse of the village having bad connectivity is unacceptable as all the roads have been paved," said Sharin.
