FREQUENT ACCIDENTS: Road markings and divider not easily seen due to darkness

JOHOR BARU: THE lack of lighting at the intersection of Jalan Plentong Lama-Jalan Permas Utama is believed to be the main factor for the high frequency of accidents at the location.

Other factors contributing to the problem are the location of the road divider, the faded road markings and the lack of reflectors.

Suffian Ramlee, 48, said he often saw vehicles from Permas Jaya careening off the road or smashing into the dividers due to darkness.

"This is because the dividers could not be seen properly at night," said Suffian.

Zulkifli Jalil, 35, said he too had seen several accidents at the site, mostly involving the dividers and their lack of visibility at night.

"In a recent accident, a car from Plentong which wanted to turn to Permas careened and hit the divider," he said.

Zulkifli said the intersection was previously upgraded to help alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours, but that has not helped to prevent accidents.

"Maybe if brighter lighting is provided in the area, this problem can be solved. Hopefully, it will be soon," he said.
