STILL UP: Residents want the makeshift sleeping quarters for workers demolished so that it is not used for immoral activities at night

MUAR: THE abandoned frame of a building, opposite a shop house development project in Tanjung Agas, Muar, is raising the public's curiosity.

Nearby residents have noticed that while  the shrubbery at the site, near the banks of Sungai Muar, is regularly trimmed and maintained, the abandoned building is left standing.

Osman Mohd Ali, 27, said the building near the Tanjung Agas industrial area is believed to be the former dormitory of workers of a nearby housing project.

He said the abandoned building was a blot on the landscape as it spoilt the scenery.

He said while the area might be bustling during the day because of the shopping complex there, it was very quiet at night.

"It is quiet here at night as most of the shop houses, which were completed five years ago, are still unoccupied.

"We are worried that irresponsible parties will use the building for immoral activities, especially at night," said Osman.

Ibrahim Abd Majid, 54, said the building should not be allowed to remain standing as it was an eyesore and could be misused.

"The dilapidated building could also become breeding grounds for animals and insects that could endanger public health," he said.
