KULAIJAYA: A 60-year-old man who fell off his motorcycle was killed after a shotgun he was carrying suddenly exploded.

A villager found Ah Yat Hassan's body pinned underneath his motorcycle, with a shotgun with him, by the roadside in Kampung Air Manis, here at about 12.15am on Sunday.

Kulaijaya District Police chief Superintendent Zulkefly Yahya said a post-mortem revealed that Ah Yat had gunshot wounds on his chest and neck.

He was believed to have died on the spot.

A post-mortem was conducted at Sultanah Aminah Hospital  and his body was later claimed by family members.

Ah Yat's youngest daughter, who declined to be named, said she believed her father had gone to his durian orchard late at night to check on monkeys which had been targeting the fruits.

Zulkefly said the case was being investigated as a sudden death.

Police were also ascertaining how Ah Yat had obtained the shotgun.
