FREE SERVICE: The Terminal Sejahtera education centre is providing online tuition to 479 schoolchildren

SOME 800  primary and secondary schoolchildren here will be among the first to benefit  from  free programmes at Terminal Sejahtera, an education centre at the  Pasir Gudang Town Centre Complex.

The centre is equipped with computers and provides online tutorials for students.

Pasir Gudang is the first district in Johor to have this kind of centre. It is  an initiative by the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry and was brought to Pasir Gudang by its member of parliament Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who is also Higher Education Minister.

Khaled said  Pasir Gudang residents would always be among the first to benefit from policies approved by the Cabinet.

He said the Sejahtera Terminal   began operations in March and had been receiving a positive response.

The centre is fitted with a computer laboratory with 40 desktops, a tutorial hall with a capacity of 50 pupils per class, a server room and  an administrative centre.

Two teachers and a supervisor will be on duty at all times.

The programme provides a conducive environment, free of charge, for students from  lower-income families to concentrate on their studies.

A total of 479 schoolchildren  are attending  online tuition at the centre.

Classes are held daily  between 10am and 10pm.

The programme is among initiatives by the Barisan Nasional government, which cares for the rakyat and strive to promote a quality community.

The minister  said  there would more of these terminals in the state, added that there would four more in Johor Baru.
