JOHOR BARU: The public told not to wait until the blood banks face a shortage to come forward and donate blood.
Sultanah Aminah Hospital assistant information officer Adnan Mat Arop said it was essential to have a stockpile of blood for emergencies, as there was higher demand for it during the festive season.
"To ensure a sufficient supply of blood at blood banks, we always conduct blood donation campaigns with non-governmental organisations such as Red Crescent Society.
"With a regular supply of blood, there is no need to worry about a shortage," he said at the campaign organised by the Johor Baru Red Crescent Society at Sutera Mall here recently.
Pulai member of parliament Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Johor Baru Red Crescent Society chairman Chong Ah Ng and its programme director Lim Min Um were present.
Adnan said the hospital aimed to collect 150 bags of blood at each of its blood donation campaigns.
Nur Jazlan hoped that the campaigns will be intensified.
Loo Liong Soon, a 31-year-old donor, said he had donated 44 times todate.
"I donate about once every four months.
"I hope this helps to save many lives."
