MAJORITY VOICE: Batu Pahat market traders have no objections to the local council’s relocation plans
BATU PAHAT: THE Batu Pahat Market Traders Association recently urged the Batu Pahat Municipal Council to go ahead and relocate the public market to a new premises.
They said the move is necessary as further delays will only inconvenience the local council, traders and the public.
Association secretary N. Selvagopal said almost all traders have no objections to the relocation date set by the local council.
"However, it is understood that there are some who oppose the move date.
"I believe those who oppose are not traders in the market.
"They are the owners of the lots in the market. There is no need for the local council to postpone the relocation because of these people," said Selvagopal.
The traders were scheduled to move to a new RM6 million premises in Taman Kota Murni this month.
"The association is urging the local council to be rational about the matter.
"The owners of the lot could be influenced by certain political quarters.
"The traders want to relocate as soon as possible," he added.
