AID: Government distributes funds to help ease the associations’ financial burden

JOHOR BARU: FUNDS amounting to RM1.6 million were distributed to 74 non-governmental organisations and welfare associations in the state.

Johor Women and Family Development, Welfare and Health chairman Dr Robia Kosai, who distributed the funds, said the state government had allocated RM490,000 to 25 NGOs which had  championed women-related causes.

Forty-nine NGOs  received  RM1.2 million through the state Welfare Department.

"The government recognises, understands and appreciates the  NGOs' hard work.

"The allocation is the government's way to help ease their financial burden in fulfilling their responsibilities," Dr Robia said after handing out the grants.

Also present at the ceremony were Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Takzim Sallehuddin Hassan and state Welfare Department director Khatijah Abdullah.

One of the recipient, Johor Baru Single Mothers  Association chairman Hanim Mohammad, said the allocation will help the association to reach out to more single mothers in need.

"We have more than 200 members and we will use the funds to conduct more courses to teach them (the mothers) skills such as  sewing and cooking, to ensure that they are able to operate small businesses," she added.
