JOHOR BARU: The Prime Minister Department's Implementation Coordination Unit has allocated RM5.35 million to upgrade 15.2km of rural roads in Johor this year.
Meanwhile, RM3.2 million have been allocated under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to upgrade another 10.6km of roads.
State Local Government, Works and Public Amenities Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Zahri Jamil said the government had carried works to widen more than 110km rural roads and repaired another 143km of roads.
"We have also received a lot of requests for road widening and repairs. The project to provide tarred roads by the Johor People Infrastructure Group has been ongoing since 1996.
"Some 2,000km of roads have been tarred since. Currently, we are carrying out maintenance and upgrading works.
"The state government allocates RM50 million annually for this purpose," he said.
