BIG RELIEF: Jalan Batu Pahat-Kluang now a much safer route for motorists
BATU PAHAT: AFTER being delayed for close to nine years, the Jalan Batu Pahat-Kluang road upgrading project is now close to completion, a welcome to motorists who ply the route daily.
The route was once notorious and was also officially gazetted by the Works Ministry as among 10 dangerous roads in the country.
To make matters worse, the uncompleted project was also a bane to motorists.
A recent check revealed that the road has now improved, compared to a year ago with several areas for motorists to U-turn, especially in Parit Raja.
Street lamps are also being erected along the route.
Motorist, Ali Aspari, 26, said many drivers now feel confident and safe when travelling along the new road compared to the past.
"The widening works as well as U-turns in Parit Raja is a huge welcome and motorists now can use the roads safely at night.
"In the past, the roads were dangerous as most of them were uncompleted, especially after the big floods in 2006," he said.
Another motorist, Abd Rahim Abd Rahman, 18, said he once met with an accident when a car made an abrupt U-turn several years ago.
"At that time, many motorists would just make illegal U-turns along the route as and when they liked," he said.
Abd Rahim said the road dividers has now made the route safer.
