PONTIAN: Traders at the Pontian District Council (MDP) premises in Jalan Teo Kang Sui can now rest easy and not worry about burglars after the council installed grilles on the ceiling of the building.
The traders had expressed their concern that the newly-opened premises was not equipped with security features like grilles, making the building prone to break-ins through the ceiling.
They were worried about potential losses should such break-ins occur.
Following the traders' complaints, MDP asked the contractor to install the grilles to ensure the safety of the traders' goods and possessions.
One trader, Said Araffat Arabie MS Abdullah Arabie, was grateful that their complaints had been heard and acted upon.
"We traders want to say 'thank you' to MDP for being concerned with our complaint," he said.
"We can now sleep easy and do not have to stay up all night to guard our stalls."
Shafie Sharuf, who sells songkok, echoed the sentiments.
"Before this, I had to go home late at night just to make sure my stall would be safe," he said.
"Sometimes, I even had to sleep beside it. Now I don't have to worry."
