GOING ALL OUT:80 plainclothes policemen will patrol round-the-clock to fight snatch thefts and wayside robberies, among others

SOME 80 plainclothes policemen in the state are to go to the ground soon to tackle street crimes like snatch thefts and wayside robberies.

They will be part of a task force where policemen from all ranks and units will go into  highly-populated areas in all 13 police districts, round-the-clock.

Johor police chief Datuk Mokhtar Shariff said the task force would have various specialisations as the policemen would come from all the divisions such as the special branch, narcotics, commercial crimes, and criminal investigations.

"Their work will be similar to that of plainclothes personnel from the district and station crime prevention units, but they will be more focused towards street crimes," he said recently.

Mokhtar said the  task force would report directly to state deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim, who would be  assisted by state criminal investigations chief Datuk Amer Awal.

It is learnt the policemen will work in teams of up to six or seven personnel.

“Their work will be similar to that of plainclothes personnel from the district and station crime prevention units, but they will be more focused towards street crimes,” - Datuk Mokhtar Shariff, Johor police chief
