    Students keen on nuclear engineering programme

    SKUDAI: A total of 2,800 students who have completed their diploma, matriculation and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) will pursue their degree at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) beginning Sept 2.

      Of the 34,000 applications received by UTM, 2,200 have completed their matriculation and STPM while the remaining are diploma holders.

      It is understood that 30 of the applicants have opted for the nuclear engineering degree programme.

      UTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said many applicants are interested in pursuing  doctorate degrees.

      "The number of applicants have increased this year with cumulative grade point average that are as high as 3.71.

      "In 2010, the CGPA average between 3.11 and 3.47," Zaini said at a breaking of fast event  in UTM recently.

      Zaini said UTM wants to double its number of employees, including lecturers, in the hope that this would strengthen the quality of UTM graduates.
