ENDAU: Two women aged between 30 and 40 were detained recently after they were found positive for narcotics abuse during a random drug test at a crime prevention operation here.

The two women were among  26 suspects arrested during the 17-hour operation which started at midnight.

The operation saw more than 60 police personnel taking part, led by district police chief DSP Mohd Nor Rashid.

The integrated operation involved various branches and divisions of the district police, including traffic division, narcotics and criminal investigations department personnel.

Among the groups targeted were mat rempit  and  drug addicts.

Besides the two women, police also detained two  suspects, four  illegal immigrants and 20 men who tested positive for drugs.

Mohd Nor said the operation's objective was to prevent crime in residential areas and to reduce the crime index in the district.

"The continuous operation by police is to ensure that Endau and Mersing remain  a safe place for visitors," he said.

The  suspects were later brought to the Mersing district police headquarters  while the illegal immigrants were sent to the Immigration Department for further action.
