FREE EDUCATION:University offers pre-business and pre-science courses to those under 23 years old from families with an income of less than RM2,000 a month

FRESH Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates unable to gain admittance to public institutes of higher learning are urged to apply for a place in Universiti Teknologi Mara's  (UiTM) "Mengubah Destinasi Anak Bangsa" (Changing the Destination of  Bumiputra) programme.

The minimum requirement is three distinctions in SPM, including Bahasa Malaysia and a pass in English and Mathematics.

Those who qualify will undergo a five-month pre-business studies course at UiTM Johor. All costs, including tuition, hostel accommodation and living expenses, are covered.

SPM holders with a distinction in Mathematics, a pass in English and one pure science subject will be considered for a pre-science course at the UiTM campus in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.

UiTM Johor corporate communications officer Ruziah A Latif said  the courses are open to Bumiputera under 23 years of age, who are from families with an income of less than RM2,000 a month.

"Those who pass the courses will receive the opportunity to pursue their studies at diploma level at UiTM," said Ruziah.

The university is bringing the courses to the youth through roadshows.

"We are going on tour to ensure that qualified students do not miss the opportunity to further their education for free, with living expenses and accommodation covered," said Ruziah at the opening of a UiTM counter in Kampung Air Tawar, Mersing, recently.
