JOHOR BARU: There were some 1,200 people at the recent three-day Michelin Pilot Experience (MPE) roadshow at KSL City Mall in Johor Baru.
The highlight was the adrenalin-pumping Virtual Racing Challenge where 85 participants pitted their driving skills in a bid for the grand prize -- the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Formula Michelin single-seater race car capable of reaching speeds of up to 260kph at the MPE 2012, on Sept 5 at the Sepang Circuit, for two.
Haiqal Abdul Hamed, a 20-year-old sales assistant, was clearly stunned when he was crowned the winner.
Finishing the challenge with a time of 1 minute and 51 seconds, an overjoyed Haiqal said: "The roadshow was the perfect opportunity for consumers to have a better grasp of what the MPE event is about. What caught my attention was the various interactive devices used, particularly the Virtual Racing Challenge. It felt surreal and exciting beating my friends in that race but I was really surprised to be crowned the winner!
The gallery was interesting. It showcased the latest technology Michelin has incorporated into their trademark tyres. This provides a great deal of assurance in delivering the standards and quality promised to Michelin fans such as myself," said Haiqal.
Michelin Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Yves Pouliquen said the MPE exemplified Michelin's dedication towards developing innovative technologies in the world of motorsports.
"The MPE is a playground for our customers to learn more about our tyres and the research and development that goes into producing superior quality tyres for the ultimate high-performance driving experience.
"It is also our way of thanking our loyal customers for their support through the years while showcasing the latest developments in line with making Michelin one of the most preferred tyre brands," he said.
The MPE is organised for a select number of invited guests to enjoy the exhilaration and adrenaline rush of piloting some of the most competitive racing vehicles in the motorsports arena under the watchful eyes of Michelin's professional instructors in a safe and competitive driving environment.
Every participant get the opportunity to experience piloting race-bred vehicles Formula Michelin, Porsche, Renault Clio and Citroen C2 Rally cars comprising laps in a formula Michelin car, a GT car as well as a rally car.
Other elements include racing simulators, an interactive quiz, a Go-Kart race and a Pit Stop Challenge. Another highlight is a ride in a Michelin Formula two-seater piloted by professional racers with total G-Force experience.
The MPE roadshow will be held at Sunway Carnival, Penang, from Aug 24 to 26 and at Setia City Mall, Setia Eco Park, Selangor, from Aug 31 to Sept 2.
