Artistes to promote Perak

ALTHOUGH Ipoh Padang was water logged and muddy after heavy rain, it did not prevent the Perak Menteri Besar's team and the Barisan Artis Nasional (BRAN), a team comprising artistes from Kuala Lumpur, to slog it out in a football game here recently.

This was part of the Perak state government's Explore Perak through Tourism Perak to bring in artistes as part of the tourism promotion.

Female artistes were present to cheer on their male counterparts as they tried to outplay their stronger opponents like former national and state players like P. Umaparam, Azizul Abu Haniffah, Ahmad Shahrul Azhar, A. Elangovan and Chan Kok Heng and Abdul Rais Abdul Rashid.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, exco Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin were among others in the Menteri Besar's team.

Among the players in BRAN were TV host and actor Datuk Mizal Zaini or popularly known as AC Mizal.

Comedian R. Chandran or fondly known as Accapan and actress Angeline Tan kept the crowd in stitches with their "live" commentary of the game.

The match ended with the Menteri Besar's team defeating BRAN 5-2.

Earlier during the interval, female staff from Tourism Perak and artistes slugged out in a penalty shootout. The artistes won 4-3.

Zambry said the game helped foster closer ties with all sectors of the public including artistes.

"With their participation in several programmes in the state, it is hoped that they will go back and promote Perak."

The artistes had earlier arrived in Ipoh by electric train to promote trains as another mode of transport.
