BASKETBALL: Xiamen emerge champs

IPOH: China's Xiamen won the Sultan Azlan Shah Basketball Invitational Championship after defeating Far Eastern University Tamaraws of the Philippines, 90-64, in the final at Indera Mulia Stadium here recently.

Chen Xiu Zao top scored for Xiamen with 22 points while Romeo Terency Billy top scored for the Filipinos with 18 points.

Gold Coast Authentic All Stars from Australia took third spot after defeating National Taiwan Normal University 103-87.

In the semi-finals, Xiamen beat Australia 93-76 while University Tamaraws had a tough time before subduing the Taiwanese 79-73.

The seven-day tournament attracted eight teams. Among them were a Perak Selection side with seven national players and two imports. the Singapore national team, CLS Knights from Indonesia, and Royal Thai Navy. By P. Chandra Sagaran
