THE dance "revolution" has hit the Penang Times Square with hot reception for the Got Youth'ed Dance Camp held here recently.

GEORGE TOWN: Open to all budding dancers, the camp offered free dance training at the concourse of the shopping mall.

Well-known dance instructors and gymnasium trainers hit the floor to the beats of jazz, hip-hop and techno music.

The 30-odd group of youths first limbered up with elaborate warm-up exercises through the help of trainers from the Absolute Fitness gymnasium.

Participants were then taught modern jazz dance moves by Julia Tham from the Cat Studio, who walk the group by their hands with her step-by-step dance moves.

Shoppers at all floors of the mall stopped in their tracks to watch the group break into fast and sensual moves.

Tham said dancing has become part of people's lives as it offers a lot of health benefits.

"Other than impressing your friends on the dance floor, it is also good for you as you get to exercise," she said.

A few more dance instructors then came on stage to show the group more exciting moves like breakdancing and new style hip-hop dances.

The energetic group was then taught Korean pop and a modern ballet towards the end of the programme.

Kenny Khoo, 23, joined the camp with his group of college buddies.

"My friends and I love dancing in college and we thought it would be fun to actually dance in a mall like this, it's a new experience," he said.

Participant Sabrina Goh, 19, a hotel management student here, said she was interested in dancing as it was healthy and stylish.

The camp was a part of the Dance Mania line-up by Penang Times Square.
