FOR MOBILITY: The elderly and disabled will be ferried within the hospital’s compound

GEORGE TOWN: PENANG Hospital is offering a buggy service to ferry the elderly and disabled from the hospital's parking bays.

The free service is part of the hospital's Board of Visitors' initiative to help patients get around its premises.

Its chairman Lim Thoon Deong said there will be two more buggies in two months' time.

"The buggy operator will pick up and drop off patients within the hospital's compound.

"Many patients, especially those from outstation are having problems locating their doctors' clinics.

"This service will come in handy," said Lim.

He said the buggy, valued at RM42,000 per unit, was donated by a good Samaritan who declined to be named.

Lim was speaking to reporters at a Hari Raya get-together at the hospital.

He added that the board had set up a special customer service unit to assist patients.

The unit, on the ground floor, is manned by a volunteer from Monday to Friday between 9am and noon.

"We are looking for volunteers who can help out at the unit," said Lim.
