FAMILIES living in 100 old houses in Tasek Gelugor will soon sleep with a peace of mind. Their houses will have new toilets, walls, roofs, doors, windows, wiring and a coat of paint.

KEPALA BATAS: Fifteen Federal Village Development and Security Committees in Tasek Gelugor, which received a total of RM500,000 from the federal government through the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) last Thursday, will be handling the cost of repairs. The repair of each house is expected to cost a maximum of RM5,000.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and Tasek Gelugor member of parliament Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the funding was part of the Nadi Kasih programme to help the poor in the area.

"The repairs will be carried out by local contractors selected by the village committees. The committee chairmen will also decide which house to repair since they know their neighbourhoods best," he said after presenting the fund at Wisma Persekutuan in Bertam here.
