    Council for community policing

GEORGE TOWN: The state Barisan Nasional is mooting the idea of forming a special council for community policing groups in Penang.

The council will give the groups a better chance to address their issues and problems as well as improve their operations.

State BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow said many of the community policing groups agreed that they needed a council.

While many of them were registered and were working well with government agencies like the police, others did not enjoy such a good working relationship to boost their crime-fighting abilities in their areas, he said.

"If we have a council, the groups from different areas around the state can highlight their issues and find solutions more effectively, apart from increasing public confidence and recognition for the work they do," said Teng.

"We will try to meet with the new state police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abd Rahim Hanafi in two weeks to talk about setting up this council," he said after a dialogue with community policing groups from Relau, Air Itam and Paya Terubong here on Tuesday.
