IPOH: The Ipoh City Council brought Hari Raya cheer to 200 ratepayers and staff by presenting them with a bag each of dates and cookies at the council lobby here recently.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim greeted them with colourful bags filled with the Hari Raya goodies as they stepped into the council building, and wishing them "Selamat Hari Raya".

"We have prepared 200 bags of goodies to give away to our customers and staff.

"We gave away Mandarin oranges during Chinese New Year, Jalur Gemilang during National Day, muruku on Deepavali and, now, dates and cookies for Hari Raya.

"This is the beauty of Malaysia, where we are able to celebrate various festivals despite our different religious beliefs and cultures," he said.

Roshidi said the move was a token of appreciation from the council for the support of the public and staff .

"Your cooperation and understanding have made it possible for us to carry out our programmes and duties for the benefit the community," he said.

The occasion also provided an opportunity for the public to mingle with the council's personnel. By Kalavaani Karupiah
