    Council honours workers

    TAIPING: The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) recently honoured outstanding employees.

    Perak state secretary Datuk Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan handed the 2011 Outstanding Service Award to 31 MPT workers. They also received RM2,000 each.

    He urged them to continue to excel in their work and safeguard the public interest.

    "The public expects improvement in services provided by the local council. The aim should be to achieve zero defects in services," he said.

    Abdul Puhat said the local authority must function as a "thinking public service" and meet the expectations of ratepayers.

    "We need to think out of the box to find the best way to deal with problems and weaknesses," he said.

    Abdul Puhat lauded MPT for organising the event.

    MPT president Shahrom Abdul Malik handed a souvenir, certificate of appreciation and RM200 to each of the 27 workers who retired last year

    Abdul Puhat expressed appreciation for the contributions of the retirees.

    "During my journey as a civil servant I have fond memories of retirees. I hope they will share their experiences and knowledge with the younger generation."

    Also present were Larut, Matang and Selama district officer Datuk Harun Rawi and Taiping police chief ACP Yusuf Mohd Diah. By M. Dattaya
