IPOH: Some 200 children from the state's rehabilitation centres for disabled children recently received an early Hari Raya shopping treat.
The children, together with their parents and teachers, had the chance to buy clothes and toys from the newly-opened Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket in Meru Raya here for the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Welfare Organisation for Perak's Elected Representatives' Wives (Baiduri) chairman, Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli, who is the wife of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, said the treat was organised to spread festive cheer.
"It is a blessing to see the smiles of happiness on the faces of the children when they get to choose their own Hari Raya presents," she said.
On the two previous occasions, Baiduri purchased the gifts and delivered to the centres.
"This is the second time we are organising group shopping for the children. We find this to be better as they get to try on their new clothes and ensure that the size matches," she said.
This year, Baiduri allocated some RM23,000 for a total of 274 children from 10 centres across the state.
Each child was entitled to RM80 in spending money.
The participating centres included the Nur Gemilang Selama, Talian Permai Padang Rengas and Lautan Kasih Royal Malaysian Navy Lumut.
Saripah said those chosen for the shopping treat came from a rotated list.
