KEPALA BATAS: A SCHOOL received new equipment for its vocational classes recently.

SM Permatang Tok Jaya got RM9,000 worth of laundry and cooking equipment from the government under the "Jom Pi Bantu" (Let's Help) walkabout programme last week.

The new equipment will benefit some 70 special needs students taking vocational courses in laundry, cooking, farming and car washing.

"With the tools, they will pick up new skills that will be useful to them when they start working.

"The skills and experience acquired in class will help them find jobs," said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, who presented the equipment to the school.

School principal Johari Ahmad said the application for the new equipment was made under the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) early this year because the school had too few of such equipment for its vocational classes.

"We are thankful that the government understood our needs and approved our application quickly," he said.

Three poor persons also received new sewing machines worth over RM12,600 to help them improve their income.
