BUILDING RAPPORT: Fellowship Ride in Visit Perak Year 2012 calendar and part of Pesta Laut Pangkor/Lumut 2012

MANJUNG: SOME 500 people from as young as 10 years  to at least 70  participated in the JANAMANJUNG Fellowship Ride here recently.

This has become the second-largest fun ride concept cycling event in the state.

"This year's participation went up to 497 riders, the largest number of entrants since the event organised by Sultan Azlan Shah power station began five years ago," said the station's chief operating officer and general manager, Shamsul Ahmad.

"Due to the overwhelming response, we had to reject more than 200 hopeful entrants on the advice of police due to safety reasons."

The participants were flagged off by Tenaga Nasional Bhd vice-president (generation) Datuk Mohd Nazri Shahruddin at the power station's compound.

The 150km route is 10km longer than the previous year's.

From the power station, the cyclists pedalled through Ayer Tawar, Parit, Manong and Beruas before finishing at the power station.

Mohd Nazri, in his speech, said: "We are proud that the fellowship ride has been recognised as one of the events in the Visit Perak Year 2012 calendar."

It is also part of the Pesta Laut Pangkor/ Lumut 2012 from April 24 to 29.

"The fellowship ride is one of the biggest event in our corporate social responsibility programme," he added.

This event is aimed at forging closer rapport between the utility company and the local community.

It is also to show that the station powered by coal technology is environment-friendly.
