GEORGE TOWN: Formed some five years ago, the Flava band comprises seven talented musicians from the Philippines. They have performed in Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Muscat, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and China.

This is the band's first stint in the peninsula. They have been entertaining regulars at the Slippery Senoritas Salsa Club since early this month.

Leading the frontline are two female singers, Marilou Sala Aranzazu and Cherrymay Limjoco Esmele, who are well versed with the latest hits from Adele, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Beyonce and Rihanna.

Providing solid backing on instruments for the duo are Alvin Abainza, Danilo G. Maniti II, Joey Q. Villar, Jayvee G. Calicdan and Alex N. Madlangbayan.

"We find Penang island quite similar to back home since there are many tourists and friendly people who are eager to have a good time," said Alvin, who is the band leader.

He added that their repertoire of songs ranges from slow rock, top 40s, pop, ballads and alternative to the latest chart toppers.

"Keeping abreast with the latest songs is one of the challenges any show band faces, and we are used to the pressure of practising to keep up with the demands of the audience," said Marilou.
