Frequency sings in different lingoes

GEORGETOWN: A TWO-PIECE band, Frequency, is currently performing at Bayview Hotel George Town.

The duo take to the stage nightly except Mondays at 10.15pm at the hotel's Lobby Lounge until October this year.

Local entertainer Jee Yong Soong, who is the keyboardist and vocalist, has been involved in the music industry for the past 20 years.

He was previously with the country's most popular band, The Alleycats.

His repertoire includes country and western, rock and commercial music.

The ensemble's frontliner is Maripaz Basinang Besana who hails from the Philippines.

Maripaz has been singing for the past 10 years and has worked in South Korea and Japan.

"My singing talent is dedicated to my family who love music and singing," she said adding that she had formed a band during her college days back home.

After six years performing in the Philippines, she decided to venture outside where she performed in a few hotels in South Korea.

With her powerful voice, Maripaz sing numbers by Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Among the regulars at the lounge are in-house guests, tourists and walk-in guests.

Besides English and Tagalog, she is at ease singing in Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese, Mandarin and Hindi.

The band also performs at the hotel's Revolving Restaurant from 7.45pm to 10.15pm nightly except Mondays.

The Frequency has a combined experience of 30 years in the music industry.
