100 players pit skills at the Penang leg of the Carlsberg Masters Golf Classic

    THE Penang leg of the annual Carlsberg Masters Golf Classic was held at the Bukit Jambul Country Club in Bayan Baru recently. The other legs of the series were held at Sungai Petani, Ipoh, Malacca and Johor.

    Businessman Stephen Chin won the gross event with 81 points while Peter Khor and Lim Eng Wah finished second and third  with 83 and 84 points respectively.

    In the nett event, Lee Kaw Chuan took the top spot with 65 points while Yagi Yasushi finished second with 69 points.

    Johnny Bong settled for the third spot, also with 69 points.

    Carlsberg Malaysia northern region manager Lim Eng Wah, who finished third in the gross category, gave away the prizes to the winners.

    Eng Wah said the response was encouraging with more than 100 golfers participating in the Penang leg.

    "We did not expect more than 100 golfers to show up. Almost all those who were invited, responded."

     He said the tournament was by invitation only and the guests had a great time at Bukit Jambul.

    The winners in each of the five legs of the Carlsberg Masters Classic were invited to play in the national grand finals in the Klang Valley.

    Eng Wah congratulated the winners and he wished them good luck in the national grand finals.

    The participants were treated to a hearty lunch after the tournament where the winners received their prizes.

    A lucky draw was held and the prizes included Panasonic 32-inch television sets and other electrical appliances.

    RESULTS -- Gross Overall: 1 Stephen Chin 81 pts,  2 Peter Khor 83, 3 Lim Eng Wah 84, 4 Nico Tan 85, 5 Shirley Sim 86;   Nett Overall : 1 Lee Kaw Chuan 65, 2 Yagi Yasushi 69, 3 Johnny Bong 69, 4 Tan Swee Teng 72, 5 Goh Chai Siong 72;

    Novelty event: 1 Ng Boon Siew, Ooi Woei Ming, 3 Nico Tan.
