EYESORE: Abandoned for 16 years, the Kinta Jaya Light Industrial area has become an open dump site

IPOH: INDISCRIMINATE dumping of garbage has turned the  surroundings of the Kinta Jaya Light Industrial area in Gunung Rapat into a mini landfill.

Checks by Streets showed many items, ranging from eggshells to used clothing, furniture, beer bottles and construction wastes, were piled up along the road.

The industrial area has been abandoned for almost 16 years.

A regular passer-by, who only wanted to be known as Jeff, said the piles of garbage had been there for years.

"It started with a small pile of garbage which has grown over the years.

"It has now filled up the entire stretch," he said.

Jeff said he had seen trucks unloading logs, branches, rubble, furniture and planks there.

He added that there are no specific garbage collection sites and garbage collectors do not come to the area.

Jeff also wrote to the Ipoh City Council, urging it to clear the huge pile of garbage.

"I have a feeling that the council is aware of the situation since there are sign boards around informing people not to throw rubbish here," he claims.

"My neighbours have also lodged similar complaints with the council but no action has been taken."
