GEORGE TOWN: POPULAR date supplier Mohamed Meera Sahib (M) Sdn Bhd is sponsoring 10,000 boxes of dates, worth RM20,000, for the upcoming Semarak Ramadan Berita Harian 2012 programme.

The dates will be distributed to Langkawi, Johor Baru, Ipoh, Terengganu and Selangor.

They will be given to Bazaar Ramadan visitors, especially the needy including single mothers and orphans.

Mohamed Meera Sahib (M) Sdn Bhd director, Mohamed Meera Sahib Mohamed Noordeen, said the sponsorship is given in cooperation with BH to help enliven the programme.

"This programme will allow those who are less fortunate to enjoy this fasting month more meaningfully," he said during the handover of 10,000 boxes of Meera dates at his company premises in Lebuh Penang here.

"I also hope this collaboration will continue in the future."

The donation was given to the New Straits Times Press Penang group distribution manager, Wan Zarifah Wan Ibrahim.

Also present was BH Penang bureau chief, Mohd Zin Ali.

Meera's late father, Mohamed Noordeen Mohamed Meera Sahib, a famous Indian-Muslim trader in Penang, was the founder of the business during the 1950s.
